I have a GE 21.7 CU ft NO FLOST refrigerator/freezer. My problem.
The refrigerator is not getting cold enough, actually its getting warmer each day. and the freezer back panel has a layer of flost on it and the food is starting to deflost. I'v taken the back freezer panel off and the coils and the silver tincles are all iced up. About a month back I had deflost the freezer from all that flost and ice and the refri/freezer started working okay til a few day ago. This problem started with the ice maker linking water thru the back panel in the freezer. I've since disconnected the ice maker. Is there any thing else I can do to keep the flost from coming back.
I would greatly appriciate your help on this. Thanks. Tournee

Normally there is a defrost timer in the bottom of the fridge. This may need replaced as being bad.

In the back of the freezer compartment there is normally a circulation fan that circulates air accross the coils. This too if not working can cause you coils to freeze up.

Sometimes you have a leak in your freon system and the leak will need to be located repaired and the system recharged. Problem with this one is you need a license to handle freon probably will mean hiring a fridge man for that one.

If you are froze up you will need to completely defrost that fridge making no ice in the coils at all. You may use a strong hair dryer to do this if you like.

Maybe Jeff will have better ideas on the subject but that is best I got.

Let us know how you come out and good luck

Hi all,

I'v taken the back freezer panel off and the coils and the silver tincles are all iced up.

Did the coils look all plugged up anything like this?....all covered in frost....

If yes...sounds like the frost free has failed. Defrost timer, defrost thermostat and defrost heater(s) are the frost free parts. If the cooling coils plug up the air flow for the fan is blocked and it cannot circulate the cold air around. Defrosting the unit removes the symptom but not the cause, the fridge will usually work a while until the build up comes back.

*Some* frost free info...
