I have a Maytag Atlantis clother washer. What is happening is only hot water will flow into the machine , no cold water will come on. So the machine will work normally but no matter how it is set, only hot water enters. I have to fill via a hose from the laundry sink when cold is needed. The work around is somewhat of a pain and inconvience and would prefer finding the cause and doing the fix.

I may not have a chance for a couple weeks to look at it myself and fix it, but thought I would try and nail down the possible causes and get prices on the replacement parts now. My first thought was a possible mix valve which I asssume is located right where the hoses connect to the machine, or the trigger power is not switching the valve right but would like some opinions, don't like buying parts that I don't need.

Hi,

For sure check the fill valve coils for the cold one being open...a typical Atlantic fill valve...

With the wires off ( mark them ) you can ohm the coils for continuity...

Some of these Atlantis fill valve are inside the cabinet and accessing them from the back is impossible...if your hot and cold fill hoses go inside the cabinet to the fill valve...remove front, lift top to access the fill valve itself...

Many Atlantic washers ( no model# posted ) have a temp assure electronic board ( on back of timer ) for the fills...if this board fails the fills will be effected, but starting with the simple stuff like the fill valve itself is the best route.

You have an APWagner Maytag parts depot in...

Thanks Jeff
the model number is MAV7600AWW

I may not be able to investigate this until next week, but I do want to do the repair soon. Once I nail down the probable part , I will call the ottawa parts su0pplier you mentioned.

Before you buy any parts you should try the simple first. Inside the hose bib of that mix valve is a filter screen. If your water picked up sand due to flushing of city fire hydrants or picking up sand in a well pump or your pipes have frozen at some time this screen will plug up where the hoses hook up to the mix valve.

Simple fix take off hoses and use a small screw driver to pop out those screens in that hose connection either on the hose rubber seal or inside the mix valve itself or often times both are present. Clean the screens and reinstall. Just flush the screens with water at the sink. If you find little particles of sand this often times is your problem that built up over years of use of sudden freezing of pipes etc.

Kind of like the repairman that replaced everything in the washer then found the washer was unplugged. Try that simple screen thing first. Many times it is the mix valve once in a while it is a plugged screen on the hose or inside the mix valve bib or both.

If Jeff is right and if it is a two solinoid mix valve the cost is minor and maybe a 20 minute repair. Most appliance repairmen carry mix valves on their truck being a common repair. Just try the simple first being checking your screens.

Murphy's law says Jeff hit the mark. Never know though you may be the lucky one and only have plugged screens. Naw can't by lucky can you?

Hope this helps

Hi all,

MAV7600AWW

First 2 numbers in the serial # ( beside that model# ) is the Series of your washer....

Before series 18...http://www.repairclinic.com/dbimages/00000084/00023873.jpg
#22002708

After series 18 ( no pic ) # 22003372.

For sure check the fill valve entrance screens like Warren mentioned...also some fill hoses have built in screen in the hose washers.
