recepticals on counter tops

I know if you install a receptical on a counter top where there is a sink they have to be gfi protected, what if the countertop does not have a sink at all?

Are you in Canada or the US?

In the US, ALL 120v. receptacles serving kitchen countertops must me GFI protected. There is no more 6' rule with regard to sinks.
