Hot To The Touch
What would make a plug and the appliance wire 18 inches down stream from the plug 'Hot To The Touch'. I've got a treadmill plugged into a dedicated 20 amp GFCI duplex receptacle and I find that after 30 minutes of treadmill use the plug and wire are really warm to the touch. What causes this, and is this something to be alarmed about?

You may have a loose connection at that receptacle. Look at the plug on the treadmill for discoloration. Look at the receptacle and its wire connections for any discoloration or loose connections.

If all seems fine and if you have 12 awg copper wire serving that receptalce then replace that receptacle with a heavy duty 20 amp rated receptacle. Should solve your heating problem.

Let us know what you find.
