I have a switched flourescent light in my basemaent. Every time I shut it off, the breaker pops. I have gone to the junction box and removed the connection to the light. No problems once I reset the breaker. Also, if I reset the breaker when the light is on I have no problems. If I try to reset the breaker while the switch is in the off position it will not reset. The breaker is of 15 amp. The best I can tell is that there are three incandescent lights on the same run.

Open the switch and tell us if it has three screws with wires on them or if you have two screws with wires on them.
If you have two screws with wires on them tell us if you have two cables with a black and white and bare wire in each cable or if you have only one cable entering your switch box with one black white and bare but without the second cable.
Just as a second thought look at the toggle on the face of the switch and tell me if you find an off and on written on the swith toggle. See if the on is on the top of the toggle or on the bottom of the toggle of that switch.
