I have an outdoor jacuzzi that has a gfi built into the three prong plug of the jacuzzi. It is plugged into my outdoor receptacle which also has a gfi . I have been having problems with the gfi on the jacuzzi tripping. At first, I could get it to reset by playing with it, but now, it won't reset at all.
Can I simply replace the jacuzzi plug with the gfi with just a plain outdoor three prong plub, eliminating the gfi. I went to home depot and that is all they had.
HOme Depot said that that would be okay, but, I am hesistant over doing this.
I love my jacuzzi, but don't want to fry somenight while drinking wine. :?

First are you plugging into a normal weather proof outside receptacle that is GFI protected?
Is there an in use weather proof cover on that outside receptacle that allows your to plug in your tub then the cover will snap over the receptacle and the plug while plugged in making both the plug and the receptacle weather proof?
Is this a noramal whirlpool tub that is plugged into a normal 20 amp outside receptcle 120 volt rated or is this a 220 volt 50 amp plug.
If this is a 120 volt tub, cord and plug for normal outside 120 volt receptacle usage. I want you to do an experiment. Try running an heavy extension cord from an inside receptacle near the outside door yet plugged into the inside of your home. Run that long enough that you know that either the GFI plug of the tub still trips or if it will keep from tripping on an inside receptacle. If It stops the GFI plug from tripping then tell us and we will go to plan 3.
If the GFI plug of hte tub still trips while plugged into the inside receptacle on a heavy extension cord then take a piece of plastic and cardboard. Lay the card board on the earth and lay the GFI plug while still plugged in from inside your home on that cardboard. Then lay that plastic as a roof over that GFI plug and tucked under that cardboard leaving the ends open for air to flow through under that plastic cover. WE are building a little shed over that GFI plug to keep any dew or other moisture away from that GFI plug. This will tell us if you have a moisture problem or a double GFI fighting each other problem.
Come back in and tell us what you find as results to those two experiments.
