Am installing new bathroom in new house extension. I'm finding it very difficult to get good advice. What I really need is a good diagram of a basic full bath, showing generally what goes where. At that point I can ask the local building inspector about local codes. I just need to sound like I have a clue.
Interestingly, in my township , home owners can do their own electrical work, but not plumbing.
So I guess you can burn the house down, but not flood it.
I've also noticed that plumbers are much more secretive than electricians--- around here anyway.

A lot of the plumbing depends on relative location of the outlets in the bathroom and arrangment relating to each other geographically.
There is no such thing as a typical bathroom. Each is designed with what you have to deal with concerning placement and distance from each other concerning plumbing outlets.
Then you have attic above, second floor above. Then you have cement floor or crawl space. All affects the plumbing design.
Minimum sizes of plumbing are 1 1/4" vanity drain, 2" shower drain, 3" commode drain.
You must have a vent to release suction from that drainind water that would suck you traps dry.
Suggested common is to install a 4" soil pipe with a directed tee sized to 2" going to your vanity with your a tee installed in the wall so you vent will go up the vanity wall reducing to a 1 1/4" drain into your vanity. Then a second tee 2" from the soil pipe to go to your shower.
You must install a trap in the vanity drain and a trap below you shower drain. Water remains in your toilet with the trap built into the toilet thus no plumbing trap is required for you toilet.
When you go through the roof with your vent you must enlarge passing through the roof to 3" for frost guard.
Hope this helps
