I am replacing an old garage door opener. The old wall switch is wired with yellow, white, black, and red. The new switch will only accommodate red and white. Which colors do I combine and/or ignore and tape off? Thanks for the help, it is greatly appreciated.

I would hook up the Red and White if that is what the directions call for. Keep it simple.
The switch controlling the door is either low voltage, or a singling dry contact. Tape the other off, or snip back.

Sounds to myself that these are low voltage wires(yellow?) never have seen in residential a switch(110v) for G/D opener. My bet is you talking low voltage, poss 18/4 bell wire. Make clear to moderator. GL

I am suspecting your old GDOpener had a light switch and a door opertaion switch. You new GDopener I am suspecting has only a Door operational switch with built in auto lights.
You should be able to tape off any two wires and connect the two remaining wires to the new GDOpener wall control. Which color to which shouldn't matter. The wall control should only be a momentary contact switch.
Many different GDOpeners out on the market. But hitting you with the most expected scenerio as you discribed it.
If you have the type GDO that I am suspecting you only need a momentary contact. Once you install your door opener you should have two screws on the back of the door opener. If you strike contact between these two screws I am expecting your door operator to start its run cycle.
Let us know how you come out.
