For a fluorescent light that is fastened to the ceiling by screwing it into the joist, does there have to be a junction box? All wire connections are contained in the body of the fl. light.

(this is the additional info. you asked for in my first question)

You will find a 1/2" knockout approximately 8" off center of your light fixture long ways. YOu need no external light box for a flourescent light fixture. Leave the wire hanging out long enough to make the connections inside the light fixture on the finish then drywall. Then install a Romex connector on the Romex and secure that Romex to the light fixture with a lock nut. Then make your wire nut connections inside your light using the flourescent light as the box.

Hope this helps
