In the process of finishing my basement, I noticed that the existing wiring may not be up to code. The switch for the exterior light just outside the basement receives power from a non-GFCI interior lighting circuit. Since there is a nearby 15A GFCI receptacle (its the only receptacle in the circuit), should I just run power from there to the exterior light switch? Or, is it fine to have this non-GFCI protected exterior light? FYI, the exterior light is rated for two 100 watt flood lights.

As long as there is no receptacle in the outside light fixture then you are fine not GFI protecting an outside light fixture and pass the NEC rules.

Outside lights as area or general lighting and not being an underwater pool light is not required to be GFI protected. Underwater pool lights have their own rules and must be GFI protected. What you have does not require GFI protection as an outside area or general use light fixture.

Good Luck
