Have a DSL line and 5 telephones with noise on the phone in the computer room. Noise is a constant hum in the background. All filters installed on each line but still the noise. Any ideas?

1. Temporaryly discounect the dsl modem - Is the hum still there ?

2. Remove all the filters and disconnect the DSL modem , is the hum still there ? If the hum is still there....
a) disconnect absolutely all phones, check one phone at a time, see if the hum exists only with a perticular phone connected.
b) make certain that the wife hasn't used the telephone wire in the basement ceiling as a clothes line. (personal experience on that one)

3. If you have a demac jack at the telephone entrance, try it with one phone. If possible disconnect the line internally so only the demac jack is connected. This should indicate an internal or external source.

We are trying to determine...
1. if internal or extatnal to the home.
2. a problem with one filter.
3. modem problem ( but unlikely if DSL is working)
4. a problem with one perticular phone.

Any recent renovations ?
