View Full Version : Fixing an Oppps

I was toe nailing (actually screwing) in some blocking between my floor joists and I accidentally went thru an electical wire (14/2) and shorted it out.

I pulled the sheathing off and the wires are not damaged and the circuit functions fine but I want to be on the safe side.

What do I need to do to fix this?

Pulling a new line would take a couple of hours because it follows a fairly trick path.

I have plenty of slack either side to do a new connection. Is there a way I could solder and shrink wrap the lines and close in the work? I don't want to do a junction box since I have to leave it accessible and the box would not look good in this location.

Thanks

If your breaker tripped, then the conductor is damaged-despite appearances. You will need to either pull through a new cable, or install a permanently accessible junction box (not covered up by drywall) to remove the damaged section and make proper splices. Any splices or repairs must be enclosed in a junction box.

Thanks for confirming my options. Looks like I'll be pulling some wire tonight.
