I tried to change out the front brake pads on my girlfriends 2001 Maxima recently and ran into a problem. The set we bought came with four pads, two with wear indicator clips, and two without. I went to remove the pads on the car and realized that all four front brake pads (from the factory) had the wear indicators. I've gotten a few suggestions from friends to just put in two wear indicators. The only problem is, all four of the factory pads have a metal spring loaded tab inside the wear indicator. I'm not all that familiar with brakes, but the only thing I can think of is that it's designed to pull the pad away from the rotor until the brakes are actually applied. With the brake pad removed, this metal tab sticks straight out perpendicular to the rotor. So if I take my friends advice and stick in the pads without the wear indicator, this tab will stick straight out....can't be correct. We checked a few parts stores and found the same pads....but the dealership was closed today so we have yet to check there. Any advice? Thanks in advance.
