I keep getting private EMails and Private messages on resetting Ademco systems.
The basics are:
1) Power down the system (unplug the transformer AND battery)
2) Plug in the transformer, and RUN to the keypad.
3) Within 30 seconds, press * and # on the keypad at the same time. You will see either "00" or "20" to let you know you're in programming mode.
4) You should be in programming - press #20 (this depends on the model of your system - could be #00, depending on what you saw in step 3)
5) The installer code will be read back to you (4 digits). Write it down! The code will read back in 2-digit format. IE: code 1234 will read 01 (beep)-02(beep)-03 (beep)-04 (beep).
6) If you wish to change your Installer access code simply press " * " + 00 OR " * " + 20 (What ever came up on your keypad when you first got into programming.) Then Enter Your New Code IE: *20 +1234. Your installer access code will now Be 1234.
7) Exit programming by pressing in *99
8) Plug in the battery
To re-enter installation programming mode, enter your installer access code + 80 OR 800. Please refer to your installation manual.
After you get the installer code using this back door procedure, you can use your regular system manual to go from there.

MD.
Thanks, dude. This is really helping me get started. Sounds like I need to buy a keypad that programs rather than the "stock" keypads that are a part of the system.
Again, thanks,
Murray

I bought this house with a first alert/ademco 4111XM. I found the key to the chassis and the paperwork with the Installer code. I can access programming mode just fine and have been able to test and setup the system with Alpha descriptions and all. 2 questions though that driving me crazy...
1) Everywhere I look it says to set or reset the Master code like:
[Installer code] + [Code key] + [Master user number] + [New Master Code]
Which would be somth like: 4111 802 1234
However by the time you enter the 4111 80, you are sent into Programming mode. So what am I not understanding? I've scoured everywhere for an answer
2) Our 1 Motion Detector is set as 'Interior/Follower', so you have to be ~Perfectly~ still to arm the system. Also doesnt that mean that a second sensor has to trigger before the alarm triggers? That would be undesireble because if someone found some way past perimiter detections I would want that to trigger an alarm should they be able to walk down the hall. I see a choice of 'Interior Delay' but I dont know what that means. What is suggested for this please?
Thanks! Edoram

Whoops ok after a little more investigating I found that:
[Installer code] + [Code key] + [Master user number] + [New Master Code]
Which would be somth like: 4111 8 02 1234
Is actually supposed to be like... 4111 8 1 1234
And that worked :D yay!
Still not sure about the Motion Det question

Several times tried using the default installer code plus tried the keyboard method that you describe. No luck. After reading the installation and setup guide have come to the conclusion that the keyboard programing has been disabled (exited with *98). I called the dealer and he told me that they had purged my records, no longer had the installer code and couldn't help me. I think that they just are ****ed that I cancelled the monitoring contract and are just being uncooperative. Anyway, I want to use the controller locally now so need to disable the dial-up plus want to program some X10 devices.
Summary: 1. Installer code lost; 2. Keyboard programming locked out. Any way to get access to this panel or is it now trash? Can I replace the circuit board or EEROM to make it functional again? Any help appreciated.

Ok so if I do the reset by removing the transmitter and the back up battery, to get the installation code, will it wipe out everything and reset everything? like the programming for the sensors?

Yes.
Your system will be "dumb" and have to be re-programmed from "reset" factory default specifications.
Reset the system as a last resort unless you want a project.

Hi, I am confused after reading this post. Who is correct mdshunk or george6488? If disconnecting both power sources does reset the system, as george6488 states, the the installer code would be defaulted to 4112 as stated in the manual. This would mean that some of the info stated by mdshunk is incorrect because a reset is not a back door. But if the info stated by mdshunk is correct... Both can't be right, right? Thanks, ray

Hello -
I read your threads and you seem like the resident expert! Glad I found you. Wondering if you could give me some tips with the following.
I moved into a home with an ademco 4110xm system and 6127 keypad/console. Thanks to your tips I successfully figured out the installer code and entered a user code. System works except for:
1. when I set alarm to instant away and test to make sure all zones work, the two motion sensors do not trip the alarm. The red lights go off, indicating they sense movement, but the alarm doesn't go off. It DOES go off when I open the doors. Any ideas?
2. One of my motion sensors works well - ie. red light whenever I move. The other seems to "see" me intermittently. Do I need to buy a new motion sensor or can I do some troubleshooting with this one? If I have to buy a new one, how?
3. How can I see which zone my two motion sensors and window glass sensor are linked to?
Thanks so much,
Eric

Hello all,
Fantastic thread. It's got me 80% of the way there. I've retrieved the isntaller code for my 6127 system, and thought I entered a new master code while in programming.
Sadly, the new code is not working. When I try a 2nd hard reset, holding * and # puts the system into 'Armed' mode, and disables any other activity.
Any suggestions?

I got past my previous question. I've seen it in a few places online, so I thought I'd post the solution.
* and # have to be held WHILE plugging in the power. Once the device is locked in 'Armed', you cannot have any delay in getting the buttons pushed.
Also, on my model, it required that I use #20, while others, including the installation guide specify *20. Even then, the prompt to enter programming mode was only visible for seconds.
