Hello,
I'm building my own home and was thinking of installing a sprinkler system. My house is a 30 x 50 Colonial with garage in basement, 2 floors and a full attic (3rd floor not living space). So far out of a dozen calls I managed one sub who'd work Residential. He quoted me about $2 S.F.
My question is: Can I run the tubing and sprinkler heads and purchase tank later? If so then could I pressure test system before installing drywall? I have a well so tank is necessary. I don't have funds in my building loan for this so it may be all or nothing.
Any suggestions are appreciated.

Residential sprinkler systems are most often done in PEX. This is a highly do-able project for the DIY, but the design might be a little out of your league- but I'm not sure. Most of these systems have a dozen pages of flow calculations for the right piping arrangement to the heads. Perhaps the sprinkler head manufacturer's do this work-up for you? You might also have trouble buying the heads if you're not a contractor. Let us know how you make out.
