I just replaced a dimmer switch for a chandiler (sp?) in my dinning room. The reason I replaced the dimmer was because it looked as if someone moved a piece of furntiture into it!...it was damaged pretty extensively and I couldn't get the light to turn on at all. Anyway, the light is brutally ugly and will be taken out. So in the meantime, the ceiling box will be capped after I wire-nut the wires individually and stuff them in the box for future use....sound reasonable?
My bigger concern is the dimmer switch box. Before I took the light down, I did test the switch and it works. It was a single pole dimmer, so it was a piece of cake to wire, although my question is with the green ground wire coming off the dimmer switch. The wiring in the box is old and there's no ground to attach it to. Can I just wire nut it and stuff it into the box or should I try to drill a hole in the metal box and attach a grounding screw? There's hardly any room to work in this box and I'm not sure what may happen if I don't properly ground this. Thanks guys!!!!

wire nut it and leave it there.

I'd agree with Joed. Even if you drilled the box and bonded it there, that would serve no useful purpose. The box is in all likelihood also ungrounded.
