In the continuing saga of my home improvement tale, today, (roof work was a rainout) I started running cat3 cable for phones. I bought a split 66 thing and got that figured out. I'm putting the wire in the attic and dropping to boxes. The old wiring ran under the floor. The old wiring pokes out of a hole in the wall and runs run into the demarc box. This box is of 60's vintage, maybe older. The wires are like thick lamp cord and all black with one white.
This service drop will be moved to the other side of the house along with the electric service drop in the future. Since this is going to be temporary, can I just drill a small hole through the attic wall and drop the cat3 cable out of it (outside) and bring it into the demarc box? The demarc box is really just a bracket with an aluminum cover. What would be the proper way?

Proper way would be run the cat wire down a PVC conduit from that soffitt to just below the metal phone box. The loop the wire free air short distance into the metal phone box and connect red and green to pick up phone service.

There is credit for temporary wiring and if you are only going to have this for 90 days then you could just drop the wire along the wall without the conduit and connect in temporary wiring style.

I opologize for missing your question. I thought others were answering the communication forum subjects and they thought I was doing those forum subjects too. You just sat there and got ignored. For this I am sorry for the mix up. We had no intention of ignoring you.

Now I am not sure what you are calling a split 66. This terminology is stumping me a bit. I am suspeting that you are installing cat wiring that has ends on it and you just plug this split 66 into the cat end to create a way to split going two directions. Am I right or am I way off as to what this split 66 term is?

Curious

Hey,

No problem in waiting. I got several different things to work on besides the new phone line. If it is not raining and daylite, i work on the roof, if it is dark or raining, I work on wires of some kind. or some other chore that needs to be done. I've got more to do than you can shake a stick at, and believe me, I've tried.

as for the split 66 thing, The packages says "66 block, split M block: 50 pin". Here is a link I found that shows one.

I'll buy a stick and do the wire as you said, it will probably be there longer than 90 days.

Thanks for your help
see ya soon
