View Full Version : insulating workshop floor

I want to turn an existing workshed of about 500 square feet into a studio that I can use year-round with heating and a bathroom.

The current building seems to be built on cement block footings. What would be the best way to insulate the floor. Right now it appears to be 3/4" chipboard.

Do I need to pry up the existing sheets and insulate below them, or is it possible to insulate with styrofoam sheets over the existing floor and them nail sub-floor on top of that. Or should I be doing something else altogether.

Also, what will I need to do to ensure that the pipes don't freeze. I live in Central Ontario where the winters can get quite cold, and the summers quite hot and humid.

Right now, I'm trying to determine if it's worth trying to convert the existing building at all.

Any advice would be appreciated.
