Hi all, card's behind the bar and the drinks are on me.
I'm obviously new to the group and not quite sure which forum to post this in but by way of introduction......
I'm a qualified Electrician, trained in heavy industry (Mining and Military) as well as domestic.
Been working in automation PLC Control and instrumentation. High speed packaging, manufacturing and brewing industry for the last 12yrs.
Having said that I've been working part time in the family Elec business in London (England) doing domestic installation/repairs etc.
Applied for Permanent residence in Canada 18mths ago which has finally been granted ;o).

I am a MIEE and have a valid 16th Edition cert (UK Wiring regs) Currently enroled for the BC Elec code course here -> http://www.tes-code.ca/ Anyone heard of them
Anyway the reason for doing this is, when I arrive sometime around Christmas I intend setting up doing electrical domestic instalation/repairs, see how things go, maybe see if I can get into commercial/industrial electromech repairs in a small way. Also very interested in "smart homes" That's where the future is I believe. Anyway, as you can see, I have no firm plans other than to be self employed/partnered.
It's great you guys have a forum like this and quite unique too.
So now you all know me, who are you all you regular posters? You guys self employedLook forward to chatting to you all.

Hey, at least it's not metric:D

Redders, there are a few stops to make on your quest for information....go to HRDC (Human Resources Development Canada). They have a lot of information about all things employment related. They should be able to point you in the right direction in terms of self-employment regulations and agencies in BC. They sould be able to steer you to the apprenticeship program for BC, they can give you information about what will be required to get your licence validated for BC. Here is the link http://www.sdc.gc.ca/en/home.shtml

The BC electrical safety act is found here http://www.qp.gov.bc.ca/statreg/stat/E/96109_01.htmand herehttp://www.qp.gov.bc.ca/statreg/reg/S/100_2004.htm

The BC electrical branch FAQs http://www.mcaws.gov.bc.ca/ses/ESP/faqs.html

BC electrical safety authority http://www.safetyauthority.ca/services/esp/

You may get more specific information about setting up as an electrician at the electrical contractor network forums http://electrical-contractor.net/ The Mike Holt website also has a forum dedicated to electrical contractors. http://www.mikeholt.com/index.php?id=homegeneral These are both US-based forums, but there is significant Canadian membership.

Hope this all helps..

I dunno man, that's some aspiration. Still, if you're intent on scaling the dizzy heights......
Tell you what, stick around here, take the **** outta the noob English guy and if you can upset me you're more than match for any customer relation excersize you may encounter at drive through.
Everyone understand that or do we need the interpreter?..........Again!
