hi guys,
i need some help, and real fast, and i know this is the place to get it. i have a fujitsu lifebook e series laptop. i done a clean install of win 2000 on it. then decided i did'nt want 2000. so i blew the drive to put win 98se on it, i now i have run into a problem i have never seen before. oh by the way, i installed win 2000 under the nfts file system. but anyway, after i blew it, i went to format it, it tells me bad command. now, when i turn it on, it says, invalid command.com. huh? when i turn it back off, and then on again, it is there again. i can't get into the bios or nothing. it is automatically there when i turn it on. someone please help me here. i have done 1000s of systems, but have never ran across anything quite like this. thanks in advance for the help. if you need any further, please feel free to ask. i am needing to fix this pretty fast, so i will be checking back about every 15 to 30 min. thanks again DALE

I also have redone lots of systems, but with desktop systems, I don;t have a lot of experience with laptops.

ntfs can be pain to dump completely, partition magic will usually do it.

I know on one system I have a tiny ntfs partition still exists but win 98 ignores it and only sees that larger fat 32 partition.

Can you boot up using a win 98 boot floppy ? windows 2000 is a nice system but takes more resources than win 98, but I find in some respects is more stable as it handles memory allocation differently.

There is others that answer questions in this forum that may have mor especific experience when it comes to laptops, and hopefully will come forward within the enxt day.

What kind of boot disk are you using ? If it is win 98, it cannot deal with a ntfs partition. You may still have a ntfs partition existing. You may need a bootmagic or partition magic dos boot, that can dleete the ntfs partition properly. Some utilities will reduce the ntfs partition to almost 0 instead of deleting it, and then win 98 would just ignore it, but it is always best to delete the ntfs partition completely if no longer needed
