Hi,
Is it possible to splice or get a connector to put two pieces of cat 5 together?

For data, or for voice? For data, forget it. It'll kill your throughput. For voice, you generally use what are called UR connectors:

First, why do you need to splice it? If its a shorter run that you can replace with a single piece, I would recomend doing that. ANy hiccup in that connection and your data, maybe your network goes bye bye. I would try to keep as few connections as possible in your run.
Easiest way would be to terminate each piece into a modular connector, then they make a female-female junction that you can plug them into.

There is a connector that will allow you to connect cat5 together however I haven't done any test to see how it effects throughput only to say that I didn't notice a difference on 100 Megabit.
Sometimes I will terminate the first cable to a cat5 jack and then plug the other cable into this jack for the extension.
You could also by a small switch to connect them but will be over kill.
Here is a site that has some couplers.

As menitoned though it's best to have a single long run.
