Would you consider enabling the chatroom feature when the new VB release comes out? I see it's supposed to have the chat room feature next version. My PM limit gets full every couple of days from what amounts to "chatting".

I may consider a chat room, I just found a mod addition on the vbulletin site, if I feel like it, I may try to install it after I get home later.

There is a 3.5 beta version out, that I am also going to take a look at later, it has a built in chat feature, however it is not yet a final release of that version, but it is a a major remake. I will decide later when I get home.

I see I lost a few of the new smilies, I will have to try to see if I can find them again. What I did is deleted them and reuploaded the files before realizing there were additional ones there before.

It took about an hour and a hald to finish the upgrade.

It thinks they are there, but the actual image files are missing. One of the features of the new version is that they created hack points for mods. It used to be that they would not provide support if the software was modified. But with the new version they have various mod/hack points for mods that they will support.

Mr T

hack points....Thats very nice. DO you have to use their mods, or can you make your own?

Also, I tried to edit and none of the edit buttons were working...but that could be me. I added some plugin that screwed up Firefox and it doesnt like some buttons at times. Still lookin for the culprit.

It may be wise to delete all your internet temps and history, so that that it forces to refresh everything from the site again.

This is still in beta which means there are likely still some bug fixes to be done before the final version is released.

I will look to what mods at available right now, I am sure lots will be available as its develop towards the final proceeds.

I notice that the new features in the "reply to thread" window don't work with Mozilla, Opera, and Firefox. Maybe they'll fix that.

IN THE MENU WHERE IT SAYS user cp, faq, ....logout, it will indicate flashchat, a chat feature. You will only see this link if you are logged in. It is not however completly intergrated with vbulletin, and is running separate from vbulletin. Whenthe new version of vbulletin goes gold (final) there will likely be a mod to the chat software that will allow me to fully intergrate into the forum user base.

Hey DON! That's fantastic, but FlashChat is asking for a user name and password. Apparently, it's not the same as what we use to get on the site, and I don't know what it wants.

mdshunk
July 10th, 2005, 08:38 PM
Never mind, I figured it out. You have to register first... duh! Hopefully people will register with the same name as they are on the site, so we know who's who.

dkerr
July 10th, 2005, 08:40 PM
It is not ideal because it is not fully intergrated as yet. You need to register on the chat , there is a link there to do that, you can use the same user name and password when registrating on the chat. People that want to use it often, may want to logon when they visit the forums, so that they are always available. I could have allowed a guest usage system, but decided to leave it a registered user system for some control over it, we can also add or delete chat rooms.

Alright....Who signed up for chat as Mr T?
Just kidding

I set up an account with no problems, once I log in, nothing.

On Firefox I get a blank screen with a 'register' link.
On Opera I get the loading junk, and then a background, then nothing.
I have logged out/in, dumped cookies and cache/history.

Help?

What is with the link to XXX.com up in the corner?

If you use FireFox and Opera, you know already that you sometimes have issues with those browswers. Oddly enough, I'm running Mozilla, and I had no problems getting in FlashChat after I registered. In fact, I'm in it right now.

Mr T
July 10th, 2005, 09:51 PM
I also tend to screw around with them and screw them up.... <insert missing crash smiley here>

Gonna grab the new Opera tomorrow and see if that helps.
MD are you just using "Mozilla" or a product by Mozilla?

dkerr

You also may need the flash player/plugin.

Don

dkerr
July 11th, 2005, 03:39 AM
I have added a 'who's own' link to the entrance page.

Because it is not yet 100% intergrated with vbulletin I would susgest logging into chat when you also log into the forums, that way you are also accessable for chat.

and leave the chat open in another window. This new version of forum software does still have a few bugs in it, will have to update often as the development proceeds.

Got that chatty thing to work...
Upon digging through the 5 lines of code that made it to my computer, I found that it wants flash 7. Nice of the designer to tell us that!

I still would like to know our affiliation with XXX.com :D :D

all i get when i try to register is a blank screen.....have the flash, deleted cookies/cacheI had the same problem. I changed the setting in my Internet Security package to allow pop-up ads and I was able to complete the registration. Once I finished registering, I turned the pop-up blocker back on and everything was fine.

CHAT is now intergrated into the vbulletin registered user base, you must be a registered user on the forums in order to be able to use chat. Log into the forums, and then goto the chat. The chat software can detect if you are currently logged into the forums.

Maybe I am missing something but everytime I go to the chatroom no one is in there.

What are the peak times people are in there? I only make to the forums during the evening hours, all through the weekend.

By the way I love the red outline and buttons on the site now, really good color and stands out good on the page, makes for an easier read.

Good job to all the people behind the scenes of this forum making this a great site. I can see where this site is going in the near future; I am sure it will start peaking on all the internet search engines for the site to go to for answers.
