a friend bought this property and this landmark shovel came with it...and it runs. :D

MD...did you get your Case back, or are those Amish guys outfitting it with yoke & harness? :D

The guy that's working on it only has rainy days to devote to the effort since he farms. There's about 10 or 15 ahead of me. I told him some time before the snow flies, so I think he took me literally. It doesn't matter to me.

Say, you could probably scrap out that shovel for a few grand in steel alone. I'm certain parts are no where to be found if you did want to use it regularly. It is interesting, though. Is that an old coal cut your friend bought??

the coal was stripped back in the early 50's and the machine has been there since. he starts/greases/moves it every year. he paid $83k for it new in 1951.
he says there's $12k in scrap...
the machine is kind of a landmark along a major state highway.

the property goes back 300' past the highwall - the guy that owns the property behind is a coal stripper and wants to strip the rest along with his...

i was there sat. morning augering post holes along the frontage & people stopped to ask what was going to happen to the shovel...even a stste cop stopped and said they use it for a reference point.

I don't believe you...Picts of "xkavtor" spray-painted on the side of the shovel, please. :D

That things looks pretty cool. With the increasing price of steel lately, it might be a good investment to hold on to it.
