Does anyone know under what conditions it is permissible to install the bonding conductor on the outside of flex (liquid-tight)?

Where does it say so in the CEC?

Does anyone know under what conditions it is permissible to install the bonding conductor on the outside of flex (liquid-tight)?I think none.

Where does it say so in the CEC?10-510 Fixed Equipment

Rule (3)

The armour of flexible metal conduit and liquid tight flexible metal conduit shall not be considered as fulfilling the requirements of a bonding conductor for the purposes of this rule, and a separate bonding conductor shall be run within the conduit.

Yeah, I've seen that rule, but there's a condition under which you are permitted to run the bonding conductor on the outside. I can't remember if it's regarding fill, or damp locations or something...

I've seen the rule in previous years at school, but I'll be darned if I can find it now, and it's a question in a code assignment I have to hand tomorrow.

Rule 12-1306 Liquid-Tight Provisions for Bonding

A separate bonding conductor shall be installed in LT flex. conduit in accordance with section 10.

I see no exception in either section 10 (Bonding) or 12-1306 LT for an external bonding conductor. That doesn't mean that it does't exist somewhere but it's not in the two places where you would expect to find it.

Is it possibly an amendment to the CEC by your provincial authority?

It may be a Standata thing.

It just frustrates me that I can't find the rule, knowing I found it before...

You were right, Homer.

It does violate code to run bonding conductors on the outside of flex.

We went over the assignment in class today, and my instructor said it's never allowed by the CEC. The exceptions are permitted by the Alberta Standata, though my instructor did not elaborate on the details of those exceptions.

Thanks for your advice.
