Hi all,
I have a 92 60 hp Johnson that is hard to start, but after it is started it runs good. I tested the stator output at cranking with a fluke multimeter and got 150 volts. My book says that there should be 250 volts. I need to know is this a sufficient test, and could this be my problem. I suspect weak spark. Also, the choke works.

Thanks for any help

Do you pump up the fuel line ball in the gas line? This will make it hard to start. Have you changed plugs lately? This will make it hard to start. Leak in a fuel line will also make it hard to start but allow it to run at high speed due to higher RPM allowing more fuel pump pressure. Check you gas hose and connections. Check you gas tank to make sure it is venting right. If plastic you may have a flat gas tank by now, worth checking.

Carb may be dirty but if running fine at high speed probably one of hte above. Electronic ignition may be weak but often times they either work or don't work.

Just some ideas
