I am finishing the bathroom in the basement. There is a 6x6 dug in the wall studs with the drain pipe. My concern is being able to run the drain from the tub to that. I have seen several tubs that have 3" and 4" drain to floor distances. (some tub manufactures refer to them as aprons.) I am trying to keep from cutting into concrete and would like to know what space I would need to connect the drain, the elbow, and the drain pipe. I am sure 4" is safe but what is min. space needed.

The term 6x6 by drain is confusing. If you are talking of a 6x6 electrical duct by a drain no concern is needed of clearance. If you have a 6x6 drain stack going down and wish to tap to that stack you would drill a hole in it and install a flange to adapt to the drain of the tub.
Hope this helps

The 6x6 is the cutout in the concrete that I believe is for the p-catch to hang down. The real question is to how much room do I need between the drain cutout in the tub and the floor to run the pipes for the drain. (for the drain to connect to the tub, the elbow to attach and to curve, then the pipes to run to the catch.) I don't want to cut into the concrete so I have to get a tub that has an apron that lifts it from the ground.

That opening you have in the concrete is a rough opening only.
Meaning, that there might not be any tub that matches that hole. That is roughed in by the plumber so that there is access to a stubout underneath the floor, and most times you do have to bust out concrete to make the tub drain work.
Removing concrete is part of the job most times on concrete installs of tubs and showers. I would love it if they could make the openings larger.

Thank you. Actually, I found an Aquaglass tub that has a 4" drain to floor which will allow me to conect the drain to the stubout without busting concrete. I appreciate your replies.
