Hello. I had a shower drain plumbed for future use in the basement when my house was built in 2000. I assume there is a trap under the concrete. I would like to use this drain as a washing machine drain when I relocate it to the basement. Is this going to work, is it to code, and if not, what would I have to do to make this happen?
Thanks,

If you have a floor flange most commonly the trap is below the floor built into the floor flange. A shower trap is required to be 2" same as the washer trap. If the future plumbing was installed correctly the same drain can be used for either use.

Good Luck

Ok, this brings up some other questions. Yes, the "flange" or pipe sticking up through the cement is 2" and we are pretty sure there's a trap under the cement. Now, what if I wanted to wye the drain pipe to handle a utility sink as well? Also, the stub is about 6 or 7 feet from the vertical vent pipe. I would like to go another 8 to 10 feet around a corner to locate the washer. Will I need to run another vertical vent pipe near the washer?
Thanks!
