I've seen Certainteed at Home Depot and the Owens Corning elsewhere...

So is there a difference between any of the manufacturers? I like the Pink Panther and all, but I can get Certainteed at Home Depot. I took a look and it appears the only difference I see is that the Owens Corning is available in R15, whereas the Certainteed is only available in R13. Not sure of the cost difference...

Any thoughts?

I would highly recommend a Canadian product called Roxul Flexibatt. It is a mineral wool made from Basalt rock and slag. Compared to fiberglass batt it is easier to work with and makes a tighter installation, it is water repellent, it will not melt to 1,832 degrees F (fiberglass melts at 1,112*F). It is less "itchy" to work with.

Go to www.roxul.com for more information and to find American distributors.

I will never go back to fiberglass batts.

Mr Fixit you sound like a rep for that manufacturer with a great sales pitch for their product.

Each manufacuturer has many variety of insulation such as superfine, textifine, etc. EAch manufacturer has a rating for fire retardant most commonly equal in value per testing labs. Some swear by a certain manufacuturer. Many don't care about manufacturer but investigate the testing and lab results from a reputable testing labratory. Example Knauf fiberglass has a major factory in my town that used to be owned by CertainTeed that bought that same factory from Pittsburg Plate Glass all being the same factory, same manchinery etc. However over the years they have grown and installed new technology into their manufacturing process. Compitition today provides with very competitive like materials when being tested by reputable testing labs.

My opinion it really does not matter each type fiberglass has its own niche in the industry with equal testing and rating of their products.

HOpe this helps

Nope, I have no affiliation with the company. I've just used the product and I am 'sold' on it.

This is a mineral wool product, not a fiberglass wool product. Big difference.

I don't know where you want to insulate, but, go with the highest R value you can afford no matter what product you choose. I believe an attic space should be R19 or better.

I use Johns Manville fiberglass insulation because it is not as itchy...has something to do with the manufacturing process, no formeldehyde is used in it's production.
