Heat tracing

Does anyone have any experience with heat tracing?

I'd interested in finding out if it could be used to heat the drain valve of an air compressor installed outside.

- What components are required for such an install?

- Is heat tracing allowed (per code) in a residential environment?

- Any special requirements?

do a search for heated air comp. moisture drain valves...i know i saw them...if it's not too $, might be better than heat tape.
don't get them confused with the 12V ones for big trucks...someone has 120V ones.
