Help with Tub Install

I'm installing a Tub/Shower kit. Someone previously suggested laying it in a bed of mortar to make it more stable. What type of mortar would be good for this job? Thanks

The same mortar that is used in the building of a brick wall.


Using concrete mix causes problems with the small gravels in squishing down the product.
