I'm changing the location of a drain for a shower. just moving it from a couple of feet. Does the trap need to be directly below the drain? the easiest move for me would be to leave the trap where it is and angle the piping above the trap over to the middle of the shower instead of moving the entire trap. Would this be ok or cause drainage problems?
Thanks

You can, but this will open up the possibility of odors to become apparent from the long distance between trap seal and drain opening.
Check with your local codes on drain opening to trap; this could also cause frequent backups since the momentum of the water can be affected by this as well.

In this situation, can you add a p trap directly below the shower and then horizontal line to old location (prior to p trap)?
