Wall oven and cooktop

I have been told by an electrician on the jobsite that I can piggyback my cooktop and my wall oven on the same 40 amp breaker as long as my wiring was #8 to the more demanding appliance and that they are within 3 meters of each other. Sound right??

Yes, you can use the "oven tap" rules and power both appliances from a single circuit. You must have a junction box where you make the tap.
