Downoading an image

Hello to some of America , my second post from NZ , nice to meet you ,
I tried to download a bmp. flie which was a small diagram drawn in Windows Paint but it was 356kb's and it was the same number of kb's for the same type of image 20 x it's size according to my Windows XP Home Edition .
What do I have to do to make the image small enough ? I don't think I could make the image any smaller that it could be seen for what it was describing .
Do I have to use an image editing tool or is something amiss . I am a year new to computing .

...gif or jpg file when you have it open in Paint. This will greatly reduce the size. If this option isn't available in Paint (depends on the OS), upload it to this thread and someone can do it for you and will upload it back into the thread for you to download.
