Well as you guys have seen I have been rather scarce on the forum lately. Reason? The crappie and bass bite on Truman Lake!!!!! Holy cow it is the best I have seen in 10 years. Water is clear (3 ft. visiblity), stable and about 62 degrees F. The crappie are averaging 1 lb. and they are on the banks and jumping on any jig you care to throw. The bass are on the banks preparing to spawn. Fished a tourney, Sunday which my partner and I won, with 3 fish weighing 17.05 lbs. Wind was blowing 30 and gusting to 40 so ability to fish was drastically affected due to these unmerciful winds. Our big bass was 7 lbs 2 oz., the other two in the five pound range. In practice were catching a limit of crappie first thing then chasing the bass. Estimate catching 6 fish Friday before the tourney that probably went 22 to 25 lbs. But weather turned to crap and bite was not good. Big bass of the tourney was 9 lbs. 2oz.!! What a fish!! Spinnerbaits and jig and pig caught most of the fish. The big bass came on a jig and real pork frog combo. (black and blue). All of our fish came on spinnerbaits. I did have a huge fish hit a luckycraft pointer 100 suspending jerkbait but the gods were against me and she came off after a brief fight. Man I hate to lose a fish but at least it didnt cost us. Not a real big tourney only 28 boats but hey braggings rights till next year!!!! Paid our expenses so that aint all bad. Leaving again in the morning as the weather has straightened up some and want to catch those crappie while we can. See ya on the water!!
