I have numorous light fixtures in my house that use candelabra base bulbs. I noticed that they now make the compact floressents for that style base.
Anybody out there tried or seen those in use yet? WIth the bulbs being highly visible, I was wondering how they looked in a brass fixture. I would think that they would detract from the look of the fixture. I am considering these for a hanging light fixture in the kitchen (heavy use), and hallway lights.

...my wife and she says they would look "Very tacky with a large bulb hanging out of them." Personally, I like the idea of using them as they are more energy efficient and have good light output for their size. Maybe you can find a vertical diffuser (like a lamp shade) that would spread the light output while hiding the bulbs from view.

These are the same size as the candelabra bulbs.. Think they are even flame shaped. THey are solid white (not spiral)
I'll try to find a pic and post...

This is what I ran across at the store (the egg style ones)

Just saw the price... . thought they were cheaper at the store....
I was wondering if anyone has seen these in use. (how did they look?) I have several brass/glass fixtures attached to my hallway ceiling and a hanging light (brass/glass) too in the kitchen. These seem to be on every evening..all evening. I am hooked on the standard base compact fluorescents (home depots around here have a 6 pack of the 60W equiv ones for $9). I would like to change over the above mentioned lights, but i dont want to look at a ugly bulb. No way to put a shade over these lights either. Anyone seen any other styles of these lights yet?

Those candelabra based compact fluorescent lamps look downright out of place in many fixtures when the lamp is exposed. Clear lamps are much preferred by me when the lamp is exposed. Sometimes there's a tradeoff; operating cost vs. looks.

Thats my gripe too. I hate seeing normal bulbs.
