i have a cape that was built in 1948.
the rear of the cape is dormered.
i gutted the entire upstairs.

when you stand outside the front of the house, the roofline on the right side sags.
if you go up in the attic and look at the front rafters (the ones that are diagonal along the front of the house) they are not inline with eachother.

how important is this? i am not sure how long it has been like this. i have lived here since october 04...i am guessing this happened when the dormer was installed.

the rafter that are lower then the others are not supported by a knee wall, because the previous owner had pull away shelves in the knee wall.

how hard is it to have this repaired, and am i talking thousands of $$$$
i am eventually gonna drywall upstairs, but i dont want to shim the walls and even out everything and then have this fixed sometime down the road.

thanks

I would look this project over more closely. The roof line on teh low side of your roof where you gutters are is setting on a wall that sets on the foundation below in contact with a footer and earth. YOu may be seeing the angle of the gutters that were installed. These gutters are commonly angled to promote draining of that gutters installing high on one end and sloping down to a lower point on the other end. Are you seeing the slope of the gutters promoting drainage of teh gutters or are you seeing rafters lower on one end than the other.

Confused.
