I am laying a hardwood floor (3/4 thick) over a 3/4 plywood subfloor. Underneath the subfloor the joists are notched for electrcal wiring. It appears the wiring is touching the subfloor. I don't want to nail through this wiring. I could spend some time trying to figure exactly where the wiring is running beneath the subfloor and avoid nailing in that area. I was hoping I could use 1-1/2" nails instead of the standard 2". The 1-1/2 do not appear to pierce the subfloor. Will the holding power of the shorter nails be adequate?

...glue as an option to add strength?
