Anybody know what color, how wide, long and maybe give some kind of code reference to painting a " CAUTION : STEP DOWN " sign?

Thanks!

"Yellow shall be the basic color for designating caution and for marking physical hazards, such as striking against, stumbling, falling, and getting caught in-between."

There are several requirements here:

1) The area must be painted yellow, with yellow lettering in a black panel saying "CAUTION". The "step down" lettering must be black on the yellow background.
2) The lettering must be illuminated at night or be done in reflective paint.
3) The word "CAUTION" must be one unit in height for every 150 units of safe viewing distance. The other wording ("step down") must be 1 unit in height for every 300 units of safe viewing distance. In other words, the word CAUTION is to be twice as big as the words "step down".
4) The edge of the step down area is to be painted yellow with black stripes or yellow with black checkers (whichever gives greatest contrast).

This is all outlined along with zillions of other painful tidbits in ANSI Z535. (I must have been more awake than I thought in all those stupid safety committe meetings)
