My home was just built six months ago.I have a sump pump in the basement. My builder ran drain tile around my house but did not hook it up to sump pump crock. My basement flooded.Hes idea of a fix was to just drill holes in sump pump crock and put screens over holes to keep gravel out of crock. Is this a suitable fix or should he dig up floor and fix it properly.. the perimeter drain has to be either:
1)hooked up to the sump pit if your built on level ground
or
2)piped away by gravity
if not piped to either, water under hydraulic pressure will follow the path of least resistance.
where did the water enter the basement?

It entered up around slab in basement. outer edge of walls. it cant be drained by gravity. the way it was built it was suppose to be hooked to sump. builder messed up and it didnt get hooked up.

the pipe to the sump pit lets the water flow freely...if there's just gravel, it could eventually get silted up.
if you have heavy rains, just the gravel path might not be able to get the water to the pit fast enough.
where do your downspouts go to? splash blocks? dry well?
by drain tile, i hope you meant pvc pipe.
if not fixed right, i see problems later.
do you have a pump with a battery backup or a generator?

If you have lower ground elevation than the basement floor anywhere within reach even if having to buy a right away across a neighbor this would be you best resolve installing a proper gravity installation.
Problem with sump pump draining into basements is not knowing what your subsurface soil types are and how deep does fast perk go before hitting hard pan. Deep hard pan with fast perk sub soil to that hard pan subsurface makes an underground swimming pool draining horizontally right at your basement like a massive attack. If you have that type soil and drained to a sump pump three brush pumps couldn't keep up. Cost of electricity will choke a horse. Gravity drain keeps up if proper sized feeder daylight outlet pipe size and no electricity and minor maintenance.
Tell us if you have a soil report say for your septic etc from a soil scientist set of borings. This would tell us a lot. Tell us if anywhere in the area even 4 or 500 feet away like a slough or ravine with elevation below the basement floor.
I agree repair it right now and rosey future ahead. Fix it the easy way and heartache ahead.
