Soon I will have a Trane XV90 Furnace and XR-12 Air Conditioner installed. There are three options of thermostats available from Trane. The first unit is basic and non-programmable. I don't want that. The next two units are: "5/2 Programmable", and the "Trane Deluxe Programmable". My concern is if I choose the "5/2" unit, will it provide all the necessary functions that my new furnace and air conditioner are capable of? Or would I need the top of the line "Deluxe" model? Should I purchase a different brand name?

Trane thermostats are just repackaged Honeywell models with the Trane logo splashed on the front where the Honeywell logo would have been. To compare the models with any accuracy you'd need to provide us with either the original Honeywell part number or Trane's part number for the thermostats to compare. It's really hard to make an educated decision when they just offer "Good, Better, Best" options without model numbers. I shoud please you that the offer of such a choice is one of the marks of a good contractor.
