I inherited a bike that won't start. It sat for 1yr with gas in it (no stabilizer) and never started. It was in perfect running condition before that yr though, I can personally attest to that.

I replaced the battery, plugs(wires were fine), air filter and went over the bike and cleaned it up, but it won't start. It cranks strong, has a spark, but won't start. I can smell gas too when I use the choke and crank for awhile. The old plug was fouled, was wet and smelled of gas when I replaced it. I tried giving it gas, opening the throttle to lean the mixture out, everything.

I left the fuel line for last...I tried to turn the carb drain screw, but have partially stripped it cuz it won't turn. Is the carb seized up?

Is a yr long enough to mess up a carb? Does it sound like the gasoline "varnish" the carb? Is that a big job for one moderately mechanically inclined individual or should I let a shop do it?

Thanx for ideas

Another thing you might check is your compression....are you getting any?

If you check that, then it HAS to be the carb, whether or not a year is long enough to varnish it or not, only three things are really required to make it run: spark, compression, and gas. If you're sure on the first two, has to be the third.

Good Luck!
