...For no reason it will not allow me to do anything it just freezes and thats it. Wait awhile and then it seems to work again....If your computer is crawling occasionally then you need to find what is loading it down.
Have you installed any new software recently?
Do you have up-to-date virus protection running? Some trojans can really hog the CPU resources.
Have you upgraded an older computer to XP?
Does this happen randomly or does it only happen while on the internet?

Spyware!
get spybot- search and destory (a freeware program)
make sure you update before you run it.

If you run XP, install service pack 2 for the firewall (or grab a 3rd party one).

not a computer wiz at all able to get on line and do basics. So quite possibe I maybe wont be able to follow verbal jargon??? Hoping possibly something simple so as to prevent $90 an hour repair bills. Here we go again.
When going to certain websites, for example POGO which is a game site which I go to just about every day, I am able to only get in so far and then I get a yellow triangle on lower left side with a message error on page, I've never has this happen before. The cursor changes to a hand with a pointed finger and the computer freezes for a while. I ran Spybot, norton antivirus and scan disk but the problem is still there. I can't even get in to the customer support on Pogo without this happening. I'm also having problems on some other web sites while others I have no problem with at all. Thanks

Clear the cache:
Assuming you're using IE (internet explorer),
- Close IE
- Right click on the IE icon...Internet Options
- Under the Temporary Internet files, click the Delete files button.
- Click OK.

If you replaced processor or added/changed memory, this is common. Also could be the processor or memory is overheating (since you have tried all the software checks). Check to see if all your fans are working. You'll have to open up the case and check for fan running attached to top of processor. Also, any fan attached to the memory; any fan cooling the case. Check to see if any internal wiring is obstructing the fan blades making them stick.
If all this fails, do a normal shutdown and let sit for about 15 min. Start up and go into the bios setup (usually you get a message at the bottom of the 1st B&W screen that say to press a certain key (usually 'del') to enter setup). Once you get into the bios setup, reset it to default settings.
Let us know outcome.

thanks gave it a try still no luck.
So your symptoms are repeatable?
Send me some of the links to pages that are failing to load properly, I'll try them on my end.
When you say it "freezes", does the cursor hand freeze as well? Do you hear any noise from the computer itself?

thanks jacksnap & bmwpower! Kindah hesitant to want to check internally.(got all I can do to get it up and running externally.) I'm assuming you remove the tower's jacket to observe these fans?(thats all)
Still abit early here, need the wife to assist, unfamiliar to all terms. Will repost any of the suggestions findings.
BMW- What I can tell you about Links. I view links as being something you open after you have opened the main page. Example opening "Home Wiring" then going to, in this case "computers". I view the "computers" portion of my statement as being the link, as you asked. Am I correct here?
Anyways what has happened so far this AM,opened a newspaper WEB sight and clicked on a feature story and thats it the unit frooze, it did not show the hour glass that it was opening anything, just the little hand stayed visible and YES i could move it(curser) thats all could'nt even close it out nothing. The same hapened when trying here at Home Wiring. Then there was a time delay(??) and it opened. Had'nt had the problem on these webs pryor. At the bottom left, a small yellow triangle appeared Stating-ERROR and it also said ERROR on some items. Will see what the wife can do with your suggestions and will repost anyfindings. Sounds like a repair job or buying new to me. But will see what she finds and thanks again for helping us.

just now while trying to forward reply I was kicked off line, after getting back on line a pop up message came up STATING - Error with the yellow triangle(had mentioned before). It said SCRIPT ERROR in a temporary window file??? Would this be of any help? TY

i have got the error triangle before and had to use CONTROL-ALT-DELETE and then END TASK on the programs running that caused the error.
as BMW said - go to tools at top of page - INTERNET OPTIONS > DELETE FILES and DELETE COOKIES again.
then shut down computer - shut off power to and unplug it for 15 min.
this is supposed to clear temp. memory also.

did as mentioned, along with 15min shut down no improvement. Except that for some unknown reason(now) after going to a site( in this case pogo.com)(a game site) we get in so-far,then a box(dialog?) comes up asking if we want to send file to the recyling bin.???
Will take any suggestions you may have but anytime you its think to stop and take it in(repair) say so, as we do not wish to waste all your time . Seeing it Sunday nothing better to do here. Thanks all , we tryed

I believe we can at least diagnose the problem...it's just a matter of time.
I don't believe we've established:
- What operating system you're using (Windows XP, Windows 2000, etc)?
- What type of internet connection you have (cable, DSL, dial-up)?
Script errors are usually seen when something is interfering with the loading of the web page.
Send back the above information and I'll try to help you out some more...

When I start to have problems like that, I just wipe everything out and reinstall Windows. For most, this is a last resort. For me, it's near the top of my list.

after going to a site( in this case pogo.com)(a game site)
There's where your problem came from! Your Komputa is full of sypware and adware. Go to WWW.LAVASOFT.COM and download the free version of their adware software. Install and do a scan. Also, go to MS Windows site and look for the new release of the spyware/adware program. It is free. Download it and run. Also, you are running and keeping UP TO DATE virus software like Norton Anti-Virus?
Bottom line... stay away from online game sites, gambling sites, adult sites, etc. Do some research on Google on 'SPYWARE', 'ADWARE' and 'Browser hijacking'. Keeping your computer running without problems is a daily task and cannot be done in today's world unless you have installed and keep updated software that prevents spyware, adware, hijackers and viruses.
Sorry if I sound strong, but I mean only to stress the importance of keeping abreast of the 'poop' shoveled in our direction via the internet and how to avoid it. Good luck.

thanks to all responding. We ended up getting company(sunday)
Will reread the final suggestions and post that info. I can remember my nephew also making that statement about the game sights loading up the computer. Just how? is greek to me(maybe I'll learn something) those familiar with any posts I've had elswhere, should remember I'm not a good reader. I do know the Pogo sight has millions of these pop up ad's while using sight. This most likely is part of the problem, i know the wife does something to eliminate them, somehow from the computer. I'll let her read your replys and then get back. Mr long winded here with not much to say so I'll wait for her. Thanks guy's

You probably lost your registration due to the deletion of your cookies from your computer.
As far as your problem goes...
Check your free space on your hard drive:
- Go to My Computer
- Right-click on your C: drive and select Properties
Next, try reinstalling Internet Explorer:

my friends soninlaw basically said the same things as all the others - probably too much spyware/adware, etc. & win98 has a lot of glitches. clearing the harddrive and reinstalling as MD also suggested would probably be best.
when i had win98, i had to clear hardrive & reinstall about 3 times in the 4 years i had the computer and it was a PIA...took a couple hours with the DELL techs help.- had to download updates on a friends computer/load it into mine, etc.
finally, mine was acting up again like yours - freezing - i had to restart the computer every 1 1/2 hours, so i got a new one with XP and havent had any problems in 2 1/2 years.
i dont think microsoft even supports 98 anymore.
just my opinion - i wouldn't spend a lot to have an older computer -win98 -fixed unless you can find a local college kid taking comp. science that would look at it for the experience and a few $ if he got it fixed.
dell has new computers for $399 and i'm sure best buy has something like that, also.
good luck!

see name has been erased since eliminating cookies. Has been suggested to wipe out windows and start over? Have nothing to loose since possible repair costs can be put to a new updated computer. What steps are taken to do this?? Think MD has said he has done in the past?? Is another computer (2nd)required right from the get go.

wannabee.....log in and your name should be back...if the problem is only a deleted cookie.
go to yahoo/google search and type in - reinstalling windows 98 or how to reinstall windows 98 - read some of the search results and pick the one that sounds easiest for you - print instructions. i think PC WORLD magazine has a troubleshooting how to.
do you have a CD and "bootdisk" that came with computer?
good luck

Did you try reinstalling Internet Explorer?
What do you have in the way of CD-ROMs/boot floppies for the computer? Do you have a "restore" disc? What make/model of computer do you have?
Do you have the media for reinstalling all of the extra programs on the computer? (ms office, etc.)
You will need to backup everything you want to save as this process will erase the entire drive.
