Removing old tile adhesive

Posting for my parents....

They are remodeling a bathroom that has ceramic tile on the walls (drywall).
The tiles are being removed. Any tips on getting the old adhesive off? The surface will be painted afterwards.

Heat gun and scraper. The drywall will probably need a skim coat after to get a smooth surface.
