I always hear, "It's easy!" <<<I'm not looking for this answer. I haven't done a lot of security or Home speaker systems. Actually, I've only done one, and that was 2 years ago. Can someone post a detailed, but basic format on how speaker wire for a home is put together as a whole. I have some knowledge, but not enough!! When I did my one, I just had to run the speaker wires (right anf left) in the wall and ceiling, to a mud ring above a switch or etc. Never went any further than that.
Thanks! I've posted questions on information pertaining to security in the security forum!

Not exactly sure what type of answer you're looking for but...
Depends on what sort of system you are installing. A whole house audio system with multiple zones or a single room. The principles are the same: speaker wire runs between a speaker and some sort of amplifier. As Md said, home runs to each speaker.

It mostly depends on the room and speakers you will be using.
It actually is easy, just run the wires from the HT receiver to each speaker location. The fronts can often be wired externally or through cabinetry. If they will be spread away from the HT central then go in wall with them as well.
Also you need to decide if you are going with 5.1, 6.1 or 7.1. I would say wire for the most, use what you need right now.
Variables are speaker height, location, size. Sub woofer placement.

I think I may have mis-understood. If you are talking about whole house speaker wiring then as MD and BMW said.
You will need a selector at the receiver. Some better receivers have secondary channels without volume control. This can be run to volume controls in remote areas/rooms.
What you said was correct though about running to a mud ring. If I do a whole house system I get 4-wire to run from the selector to each room's volume control. Then two separate 2-wire, one to each speaker.
Polk Audio makes nice in-wall/ceiling units.
