weird request I know, But we have an whole house exhaust fan that was probably installed by monkeys, and they didn't build it right so I need to find a fan shutter like this one (http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/productdetail.jsp?xi=xi&ItemId=1611631651&ccitem=) .
I can't order it from there because you have to be a busniess. I can get one, its really just such an hassle to go throu for a fan shutter
anyone have any other places to get one?

The opening is 26 1/2 x 26 1/2

The fan shutter you posted the link to is a sidewall type. Is that what you need? Whole house fans are normally in the ceiling. You could buy a whole house fan at one of the big box stores and then return it since the fan shutter is "missing". ;)

Yeah the fan is in the ceiling, would that make a differance? would it be unable to lift the fins? I am unfamilar with these whole house fans strength

I would love to have the shutter go "missing" hehe but its finding the right size, locally they don't have it, and most of the home improvment store websites are really bad lol.
I wish I had left the thing covered up after we drywalled that ceiling lol I ddin't think a 26 inch fan shutter would be hard to find  lol

If you installed a wall shutter on the ceiling, the shutter vanes would hang open. You definately need the otherwise special whole house fan shutter, which operates in reverse of the sidewall shutter. Your opening probably needs a 30 x 30 shutter. You can get one here (http://doityourself.com/store/6834139.htm), among other places.

How old is this fan? for $60 bucks for just the shutter, you probably wont spend that much more for a whole new fan. Im sure they have gotten quieter over the years

yeh we figured it wasn't worth it for us to get it, since we are just trying to get the house sold, and the realtor been complaining about the gaping hole in the ceiling :D . so we've just drywalled it up. as soon as we dab compound over it you won't be able to tell it was there.

Thanks for the ideas tho guys :)

The shutter is counterbalanced to normally sit shut, but the air flow of the fan is enough to pop them open. I'd guess you've got a belt-driven fan and the belt is broken/loose. So you hear the motor running, but the fan's not moving.
