#7128: dodge 318 motor replacement problems Author: colisa, Location: Texas Posted: 26 Apr 2003 09:37 pm
----
we are changing out a dodge truck's 318 (standard trans) with a 318 out of a Grand Fury (auto trans).
the problem arising now is that the oil filter on the GF is slanted back ... the filter will be right in the hydralics of the Standard trans that's staying...
hubby seems to think there is a way to interchange the fittings (from the slanted motor going in to the original straight fittings)...
he went looking for a tool ... a wrench sort of thing with 4 prongs on it to aid the removal of the gasket\spacer\washer ...
did i make my dilemma as clear as burnt oil?

Thank you for your posting. I have sent an email to another user to see if he could provide some info on this as I am not familier enough in this perticular engine adaptation to give a precise enough answer. Hopefully you will get a response.

I suspect that if you look at both filter arrangements you may find that the angled filter has an adapter bracket that tilts the receiver. Check to see if the adaptor can be removed allowing the filter bracket to go on straight.
If you find the filter not changable. then you will need to reroute your transmission cooling lines to clear the filter.
This is the reason many advise against adapting from one engine style to another engine style. You will run into these type glitches.
Let us know how you come out.
Good Luck
