Can you install loose fill insulation (cellulose) by pooring it in, or just with a blower?
I am in a situation where i need to use some near my baffles/soffits, but would need to custom cut fiberglass batting, so i think loose fill will be better.

also, my roof rafters are 16" apart and the baffles are 12" wide, if i install a baffle up, what do i do to prevent the cellolose from falling down clogging up soffit vent.
thank you.

I am not an insulator, but my job does cause me to have to crawl around in attics on a quite regular basis. Often, I see that a small strip of batt insulation is placed in each rafter bay at the edge to act as a "dam" to prevent the blown material from bypassing around the edges of the baffle and going into the soffit area. This piece of batt insulation also serves to hold the baffle in place. I would guess that one roll of batt insulation cut into pieces would do this for the average house.
I would think that installing blown insulation without a blower would be miserable work. At many home centers, if you buy a sufficient amount of blown insulation, you get to use the blower machine for free. You definately need a helper dumping the bags of insulation into the machine while you operate the hose.
