Hi, I am trying to troubleshoot my home security system. The standby battery keeps draining but not recharging, disabling the entire system after 24 hours. I am thinking it could be the charging circuit, but i have no experience with these systems. Has anyone dealt with these? I would like to avoid buying a new circuit board, which would include buying a new key pad too. The battery is new.
thanks, FC

...if the system is running off the battery rather than using the house AC supply. Does the system function when the battery is removed? If it doesn't then it may be running off battery all the time. Are there any solar panels involved that may be used to recharge the battery during the day? Check for an open fuse from the charging system to the battery. If you have a voltmeter you can chase down the missing or low charging voltage.

I'd be more inclined to think that the security system's transformer came unplugged or has failed. Find where the system is plugged into regular power and see if it's unplugged. If not, check with a meter on the two screws of the transformer and see if there's power coming out in accordance with the transformer's nameplate.
