For those that have not heard I received a letter from the County Commissioners the last day of work before Christmas stating that I would no longer be appointed the County Building, Plumbing, Electrical Inspector. It was explained to me that two of three county commissioners were coming into office making a majority vote not to reappoint me as the inspector in this county. They informed me that this decision was done for the good of the community deciding that I was bad for the community. Therefor as of December 31, 2005 my term of office will end and not continue. These commisioners had a meeting December 28th I was notified December 23 they took office legally January 1, 2005. Word hit the community after the decision was made and actions were taking place. There has been a rapidly growing group of citizens, including engineers, builders, electricians, plumbers, bus drivers, excavators, home owners, renters [all walks of life in Shelby County] that have gotten rather hot about the subject stating protests. Read the article and I hope you enjoy and learn from this activity. Notice there was a meeting of a group in the industry that showed at a Tech committed meeting suddenly the day after it became public. These people were told they would not be heard because they were not on the agend of that public meeting. The response was not pretty. This was the meeting that only one of the commissioners were supposed to be at and was his first experience acting as the County Commissioner. Wow, what a way to be introduced to your job as a public official. That commissioner decided to hear this group of emotional professionals not happy with the decision that had been made. The commissioner stated he was shocked that there was anyone in support of me as the inspector. He invited them to appear at Tuesdays Commissioners meeting when it becomes official in a vote appointing someone else to serve as the inspector, inviting both pro and con on the subject.

Tuesdays meeting to my understanding they not only are on the agenda but Shelbyville news, Indianapolis Star, Channel 6 and possibly channel 8 TV news will be recording at this meeting. My understanding they are going to see quite a reception at that meeting from john Q public. That understanding is from the many phone calls I have received since then. The County Commissioners are also receiving many many phone calls on the subject since it became public. Those I heard from implies quite a large and emotional crowd that have committed to be there. I have heard only from supporters of them reappointing me already making it a large crowd. Not sure how many supporters of replacing me will be there also making it an even larger emotional crowd. I think that meeting will be better than watching a block buster movie on TV ! I will keep you tuned in on the upcoming results.

Good luck, Warren.

It least you and your supporters will be heard before an official vote. Sorry to hear that your pension is tied into this, also.

Thanks Jack

It seems to be a point of history breaking. I have been in the industry so long I hate to admit. I have seen a contractor or two back up an inspector but I have never seen such an uprising as being shown in this County. You know how many say I will try to be there and never show. My phone has been ringing off the wall with emotional people on this subject. I have had contractors, builders, plumbers, electricians, land owners, developers, engineers, farmers, bus drivers, even renters calling me. This is the most diverse group of people banding together for a single cause. Shocking that large of a group is jumping to the cause of an inspector. Normally inspectors are the target of a whipping post. I am humbled the response that they have shown. I expect anywhere between 100 and 300 professionals, home owners, and house wives there for a single cause. Wow, I just can't believe the response.

Meeting is tommorrow, I will know after they vote.

Thank you

Sorry, have been busy answering the phone till late night since and also my satelite internet has been down due to massive storm front hitting our county blocking out my connection. Longest my internet has ever been down. Also flooding worst in my area for 50 years.

NOW FOR THE NEWS !

Normally an inspector is the whipping post of all and only a few times I have experienced a person or two in the construction trade that defended an inspector from time to time. Most often those in the construction trade don't even agree with each other let alone an inspector. This publicly defending an inspector in such a large group is something I have never heard. I am so proud of them standing up for what they believed, and proud of the Commissioners listening to the people they serve and reversing their original decision not to re-appoint me.

They re-appointed me then told me to get back to work there was jobs to inspect in jest.

I loved it. I think this event may have made history in the construction trade. Wow !

I am so happy and proud with lots of humbling in such a crowd of supporters.

Excellent! Glad to hear it. I know what you mean about "inspector vs. contractor". Bottom line is that good work (that is good for all) will always prevail in the end. Again, congrats for sticking it out...........
