Is the IPC like the UPC or IRC for venting?

I called the city plumbing inspcetor today and asked what code is used. I expected his answer to be UPC or IRC. "No", he said, "We use the Arkansas State Plumbing Code." I thought to myself "This is scary, I wonder if there is a chapter of how big the moon in the door should be." But, upon looking into it, the code is based on the 2000 IPC (International Plumbing code). So, I was wondering if any of you knew if for venting a home system, is the IPC like the UPC or IRC? Or, do they do something different. I have a Code Check book on plumbing that doesn't mention the IPC. Anyway, do all the vents have to go through the roof like the UPC, or can they be like the IRC and joined and have just one vent out of the house, either through the roof or the side of the house?

Most states say they have the "XYZ State Building Code", but it's really normally just what they called it when they adopted the NEC, IRC, and IPC. When you look at the IPC and the UPC you'll notice:

-The water distribution system would look the same.
-The drainage waste and vent system would have more piping under the UPC, and the piping would tend to be larger in diameter.

The UPC is a code that lends itself better to commercial work, so be thankful you're under the IPC. The plumbing section of the IRC is basically an abstract from the IPC. Your vents can be combined, and both the IRC and the IPC provide some detailed sample drawing on how this is to be accomplished.

Thanks Md, I had come to that conclusion after googling for over an hour that the IPC was the plumbing part of the IRC. Wish my darn code check book stated that up front.

Noel there are many more requirements in the IPC over the IRC. The IPC is the ICC commercial plumbing code, the IRC contains the ICC residential codes. The plumbing chapter of the IRC is not a condensed version of the IPC.
